Some time ago I bought a book, probably at a thrift store or yard sale. It was a Walt Disney book about different societies around the world. I recently ran across it. In the book was a story I had never heard before about a nomadic tribe in Africa, primarily Morocco. When westerners first saw them they thought they might be a new race, because they were bluish. Turns out the blue fabric they wore gave their skin a bluish tinge as it rubbed on their skin. I read a bit about them online and decided to draw some. They live a sparse and harsh life but are happy doing so. Not so easy drawing almost blue people!

Just a plain old simple chair. I really did think about doing a fancy one...still might. But I went simple on this so what can I say? I always liked drawings that show that black showing around each item. So that's what I did. Now you may ask why that type of chair is sitting on sand. Good question. I have no idea! :o)

I hope you can see this. Sometimes it's hard to see animals
when they're seen from an odd viewpoint. These are two of
my late cats. Kittyboy is the white and black one on the left.
Beany is the black one on the right. I took this picture one day,
laughing because Kittyboy hated Beany and wanted no part of him.
This never stopped Beany from trying to be Kittyboy's friend.
The day I took the picture, they were both sleeping. I came in,
Beany woke up, but clearly didn't want to move because (in my
opinion) he knew if he did Kittyboy would wake up and punch him.
So all he moved was his eyeball, to look at me. Kittyboy died
eleven years ago (13 yrs. old). Beany died three years ago
(18 yrs. old). But this picture has made me laugh for all those years.

And there IT was. All I had was my paint marker. And a pencil.

So I did it. I colored it in later.

And yes, it was a weird scale...not symmetrical. But then neither am I. :o)

Okay, yes, I'm addicted to dark backgrounds. Next drawing I'm going

to try to not use one. This one is actually dark brown, not black. And

the flowers are small. The text is scanning kind of bad, kind of hard to

read. It says, "Suddenly I turned around and she was standing there,

with silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair."

I wanted to put a dog on top of the suitcase. But since it said a

"filled suitcase" I just put him inside of it.

Okay, here's the story. This was the first song I ever heard

that made me realize that songs could actually be about

real things. Even tragic things. This is in some ways my

favorite song for that reason. My best friend in high school

had been given several Bob Dylan albums because she was

such a fan of "Like a Rolling Stone". She didn't like any of

the albums because they weren't the rock style he was playing then...

they were older albums. She gave them to me. I can still remember

sitting on my bed listening to this song and being dumbfounded

by the story it told. The innocence of youth.

The song is "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" which is the

Well it started out good, I think. I thought it would fun to
do a play on words and draw Madame Butterfly instead of a

have done it more like the Japanese woodcuts. In any case,
