This one was done really quickly, just for the heck of it.
No great work, maybe not even good, but just in time for Halloween.

I decided to begin drawing again, following a list of challenges on a Yahoo group called "Everyday Matters". I wanted tight restrictions on myself, to stay focused I guess, so I decided to draw only things on that list that I could connect to a Bob Dylan lyric. So the only text that I'll include on my drawings will be lyrics. And I'll list the song the lyric is from. So here we go...

Beautiful drawing again Ellen! And yes I "clicked" it again just to get the full resolution, it totally reminds me of Snow White's evil queen, and instead of apples this one offering you magical keys to the gates of wherever hellish? ^^ ahahahaha..that's just me and my imagination.
This is scary - not least because of your witch's frightening expression. I can not believe you don't think it's good, or it was done too quickly, etc etc etc. Blech on your inner critic, and complimenti you!

Alex, I actually was going to use another lyric..."the skeleton keys and the rain" but then remembered the witches line and liked that better. But I left the key.

She is quite spooky! I love those eyes and that expression but I don't think I'll take her offering of the key :-)

This is super. I love your work. I can't quite figure out what you use as paint though. Do you use gouache, acrylics, colored pencils or combine anything that works?

Thank you freebird! You know what's funny is that I can't quite remember half of the time. Generally though, I start out with watercolor pencil, use Prismacolor pencils to enhance and define and then use acrylics to do backgrounds that are strong...black, for instance. Oh and markers...mostly I'm loving those new Sharpie pens...not the markers which will bleed through the paper, but the new ultra fine "pens". They don't bleed through the paper and they're waterproof so I can paint without the marker running. They're about $2.50 and they're great and I dont have to worry about losing an expensive pen.
I am thinking about trying gouache soon, but I had a deal with myself that I wouldn't buy anything I didn't already have in my stash. Lucky for me I have a huge stash of stuff...some junk and some good, all fun. So you're right...I combine anything that works.

This image gave me goosebumps - I think it's the eyes. You have a fine hand at developing your work with the various media (takes a lot of experimenting I would imagine).
I tried to make her eyes kind of dead and off kilter and weird. Looks like it worked, considering your goosebumps! Cool!
