EDM Challenge #38 Draw something related to Halloween

This one was done really quickly, just for the heck of it.
No great work, maybe not even good, but just in time for Halloween.
The lyrics are from "Changing of the Guards"

I thought I was looking in the mirror for a sec! Well done!

HAHA! I should have thought of a self portrait. Now THAT would have been scary!

Thanks Sheila!

Beautiful drawing again Ellen! And yes I "clicked" it again just to get the full resolution, it totally reminds me of Snow White's evil queen, and instead of apples this one offering you magical keys to the gates of wherever hellish? ^^ ahahahaha..that's just me and my imagination.

This is scary - not least because of your witch's frightening expression. I can not believe you don't think it's good, or it was done too quickly, etc etc etc. Blech on your inner critic, and complimenti you!

Thank you kazumi and jolene and betty!

Alex, I actually was going to use another lyric..."the skeleton keys and the rain" but then remembered the witches line and liked that better. But I left the key.
.
Thank you Phyllis! I sometimes think my inner critic looks just like the witch, that evil old thing. Maybe she does and that's where I dreamed her up! Thanks for the compliments!

She is quite spooky! I love those eyes and that expression but I don't think I'll take her offering of the key :-)

I am too David and guess what! My maiden name was Evans! Maybe we're distantly related!

This is super. I love your work. I can't quite figure out what you use as paint though. Do you use gouache, acrylics, colored pencils or combine anything that works?

This is VERY GOOD. I can't believe you are wondering about that. Right down to her fingernails creative and well done.

Thank you, Donna! I'm glad she did!

Thank you freebird! You know what's funny is that I can't quite remember half of the time. Generally though, I start out with watercolor pencil, use Prismacolor pencils to enhance and define and then use acrylics to do backgrounds that are strong...black, for instance. Oh and markers...mostly I'm loving those new Sharpie pens...not the markers which will bleed through the paper, but the new ultra fine "pens". They don't bleed through the paper and they're waterproof so I can paint without the marker running. They're about $2.50 and they're great and I dont have to worry about losing an expensive pen.
I am thinking about trying gouache soon, but I had a deal with myself that I wouldn't buy anything I didn't already have in my stash. Lucky for me I have a huge stash of stuff...some junk and some good, all fun. So you're right...I combine anything that works.
.
Thanks again, freebird!

This image gave me goosebumps - I think it's the eyes. You have a fine hand at developing your work with the various media (takes a lot of experimenting I would imagine).

I tried to make her eyes kind of dead and off kilter and weird. Looks like it worked, considering your goosebumps! Cool!

Thanks for yur compliment. And you're right about the experimenting. I'm on my third version of the page I'm working on now. I keep messing it up. Ah well, at least it's fun!

Wonderful sketch! I hope you used this as a Halloween card or something!

Ellen Burkett said...

Thank you Raena. I didn't use it for anything, just for the Moleskine. Maybe next year!

I really like your images. They have a great graphic quality that commands the viewer to take a look. And what a great idea to use the songs as the starting point for your drawings.

Ellen Burkett said...

Thank you Vicki! That's nice to hear. I thought of the songs purely for a discipline I knew I'd like. The chili peppers got me going and it's been fun the whole way.

Thanks again!
