Honest to Pete this looks better in person. Anyway,
the cat was supposed to be black, but I kind of liked
the sketchy look he had as I was working on him so
I stopped.

The lyrics are from "One More Cup of Coffee"
I decided to begin drawing again, following a list of challenges on a Yahoo group called "Everyday Matters". I wanted tight restrictions on myself, to stay focused I guess, so I decided to draw only things on that list that I could connect to a Bob Dylan lyric. So the only text that I'll include on my drawings will be lyrics. And I'll list the song the lyric is from. So here we go...

This is sooo cool Ellen. Croutching cat with eyes just peering over the line. Great cup too.
Great composition and color.
If he had blue eyes he would look like a russian blue. Great sketch. Does he take cream?
Love this!!! All those details in the cup...fantastic. Yes, the cat looks great with that sketchiness for the fur.
Black cats
are a favorite of mine.
What gorgeous eyes...
And the cup, so beautifully
decorated.
Love the Dylan theme,
and Van Dyke's
thought-provoking quote.
AWESOME!!!
The cat has lots of nice texture, and the gold eyes are simply fantastic! Awesome cup, very colorful.
What a great composition. The cat and the cup are wonderfully done. Lovely work and very imaginative.
I love the color and composition. And the cat's fur is perfect the way it is :-)
The colors are terrific. I think the cat is glowing from the warm sunshine on his fur. What a lovely cup. I hope you really have one that looks like this. This is a super picture.
Thank you all so very much. There are some technical problems (painted over lines showing through) that don't show on the original. Strong light of the scanner I guess. Oh well.

Doug, I love black cats too. This started out to be my cat Beany who died last year at the ripe old age of 18. I'm sure he'll show up in a future picture, He was a wonderful cat He had those coppery eyes too..

freebird, I used a bowl that I have with that pattern (enamel on metal) on this and just added the handle. I think now a bolder pattern might have worked better visually, but what's done is done.

Thanks again, everyone
I totally agree with your decision of not coloring the cat entirely black, this one's got style, and it shows a great deal of control in lighting!
Oh, by the way, absolutely beautiful floral design on the cup, extremely detailed and delicate. Great yellow-red contrast, and coupled with groovy stylized words...perfect package, AS ALWAYS TOO ^^
Oh, I am absolutely smitten with this! Wonderful, wonderful sketch! Glad I found your blog on EDM.
Thank you Alex and Krista! And thank you everyone again!
This is a fun drawing Ellen...your blog concept is interesting, I will look forward to seeing more.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog!
How can it look better?! Beautifully done. Great composition and concept! The fur seems so soft I could touch it. Reminds me of a challenge I read to take two unrelated things and paint together. I never tried it, really. But here is sure works. Makes it awfully interesting and fun.
Thank you Dana and Dan. I truly appreciate your comments.
Not just the cup, but the whole drawing is wonderful. Love the colors and the expression on the cat's face. :)
Thank you Sharon!
I love the cat's "roundness" and his expression. I want to hug him. The cup is gorgeous. Great job!
Thank you, Candy! So nice of you to comment on my drawing!
