EDM Challenge #299 Draw a table
Again, this is from my imagination which is something I was working on avoiding. It's a bad habit I have so mostly I have not done it in this moleskine. Now I notice that I'm sliding back into that habit again. The next one will be from a reference. Honest.
.
The lyrics are from the song "Cat's in the Well".

What on earth are you talking about?! It's a wonderful habit - and very tough to do, and do well. And you have done this very, very well. I love the still life arrangement, the pattern, the wood, the color scheme, the painting in the background - all of it.
I wish my imagination had a bad habit like this ;) Lovely stuff.

Why? I say let your imagination fly...it makes for more interesting art!
I lost you for a while. Now I am back and seeing your wonderful drawings again. What is wrong with doing something without a reference? I wish I had that talent because that's just what it is, a real talent. Not everyone can do it or even do it so well.
Les nuits chez moi aussi sont longues mais m'appartiennent ...
Continuez à nous enchanter avec vos belles peintures.

beautifully drawn Ellen. I really like the folds of the table cloth, the ornate designs, the lighting is amazing and very consistent, and the attention to details =)
You certainly do very well from your imagination and it gives your work a personal style!
lovely stuff!
I say the same as the others - keep going with your imagination! This is great.
I don't think you need to change a thing. You have a wonderful talent for drawing from your head. I mean jaw-dropping wonderful. I say embrace it!
You are so generous and kind. I understand what you're all saying (and THANK YOU!!)but here's the deal. I have been trying to do couple of things while working on this moleskine. One is to try new styles and media, and the other is to draw things as they are and not just as I think they are. Kind of remembering to really see. Most of the things I've done on this blog are a combination of both imagination and reference based. For example I might have a reference photo of a body position, but it's a blond woman on a park bench. I might make her an African woman in tribal clothing, getting ideas for her clothing from another place or just making that up. So I'm kind of trying to learn from reference photos while still playing. The last two had little to do with refrences. The cats were from a photo, but I made up all of the fabric. I think I'm better using references. For years I didn't. Ever. It was all in my head. There's too much to learn out there for me to continue that. But I guess you're right...it doesn't hurt once in a while! Thank you so much, everyone!
I am trying to use my imagination more, not less! You have a wonderfully detailed imagination!! Don't stop, please!
wow! i hope one day drawing from my imagination will look this good!!
thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment :)
Thank you raena and Claire!
I wonder how you manage to make such realistic work (with the light and details) from imagination. It's gorgeous!
Thank you so very much, kazumi!
